#TRENDING 3/28/25: "Floodlighting" Is the Hot Dating Trend

"Floodlighting" Is the Hot Dating Trend You Shouldn't Get in On

Got a hot date this weekend? Here's a new tactic you SHOULDN'T try.

"Huff Post" just did a big story on "FLOODLIGHTING" . . . when you expose way too much about yourself way too soon.

Author Brené Brown coined it in 2012 and said it was something to AVOID. Quote, "A lot of times, we share too much information as a way to protect us from vulnerability."

But recently, people have been doing it on purpose as a way to fast-track a relationship, or see if the person is mature enough to "handle" them.

You might be on a date and say, "I'm an only child . . . hate my dad . . . I'm on a cleanse . . . have a ton of debt . . . and technically, I'm banned from Walmart. Can you handle that?"

You shouldn't do it because you'll scare them off. But it's also just not fair to dump so much on someone you haven't formed a real connection with yet.

One expert said it's good to be open and honest about yourself, but phrased it like this: "There's a difference between organically engaging . . . and immediately WATERBOARDING a date with [your] deepest traumas."
