#TRENDING 4/22/26: Today Is Earth Day, And Only 26% of Americans Know That

Today Is Earth Day . . . and Only 26% of Americans Know That

Today is Earth Day . . . which is celebrated every year on April 22nd. And if you didn't know that, you'd be in the MAJORITY.

Around 2,000 people were surveyed last month, and 23% of people said they were confident they could name the exact date of Earth Day.

Then, they were put to the test. 57% rightly said that it falls in April, and 26% did get April 22nd exactly right. Which apparently means that some people who were NOT confident did guess correctly.

Younger generations claimed a higher familiarity with Earth Day and its history: 42% of Millennials said they're knowledgeable about it, compared to just 28% of Boomers. (Earth Day has been celebrated since 1970. Here's more.)

Millennials were also more likely to say they do something environmental or "sustainable" to celebrate Earth Day. About 30% of Millennials said their behavior changes on April 22nd, compared to just 12% of Boomers.

That said, 44% of the Millennials who do participate admitted that their Earth-friendly change is "temporary."
